New eLearning Curriculum Now Available: SMART Grants Management for DOL-ETA Grant Recipients

We are excited to announce the release of SMART Grants Management, a comprehensive new e-learning curriculum developed by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (DOL-ETA) in partnership with the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). This training is for everyone involved in the DOL grant world.
NOTE: the Uniform Guidance regulations found within the training are applicable to grants awarded after October 1, 2024.The training is designed to help DOL-ETA grant recipients strengthen their grants management practices. SMART stands for strategies built on four cornerstones of sound grant management, including Monitoring, Accountability, Risk Mitigation, and Transparency.
This curriculum is designed for individuals involved in managing DOL-ETA grants, including frontline staff, grant monitors, and board members. It provides a solid introduction to key aspects of the grants management lifecycle, all the way from pre-award to closeout. The main portion of the curriculum includes topics like subrecipient oversight, monitoring and audits, procurement, property management, internal controls, financial and performance reporting, budget management, and more.
The secondary portion of the curriculum, titled "Conducting Effective Grants Monitoring", provides a deeper understanding of monitoring non-Federal entities. The course walks learners through the full monitoring process, from initial planning to post-visit report writing and follow-up. With advanced resources, such as real-life case studies and printable handouts, the Conducting Effective Grant Monitoring Training is sure to increase your knowledge with regards to monitoring grant activities.
Each 30-minute lesson is self-paced, on-demand, and built in Articulate Rise for an interactive and user-friendly experience. With over 25 focused lessons, learners can explore topics at their convenience while building a strong foundation in effective grants management.

Accessing The Training:
- To access this SMART Grants Management training, you will need to:
- Create an account on the NASWA.org website, AND
- Request access to the Learning Management System (LMS).
LMS accounts are necessary to establish course completion transcripts and to issue Certificates of Completion. Please note that this is a two (2) step process, and both steps must be completed to obtain access to the training. Please see the Quick Start guide here on how to create your account.
